Town of Oakville officially opens community kitchen at QE Park

Kitchen made possible through $92,500 grant
Oakville Mayor Rob Burton and Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn were at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre Friday, April 13 to officially open the facility’s new community kitchen.
The commercial-grade kitchen, which was made possible through a $92,500 Ontario 150 Community Capital grant received in 2017, is expected to make a real difference in the community.
“Thanks to this special funding, QE (Queen Elizabeth) Park now has a beautiful, state-of-the-art kitchen that will enable community organizations to prepare and serve their own food at their events,” said Flynn.

Closing due to declining attendance and program participation
The Bronte Youth Centre, located at 2996 Lakeshore Rd. W., will close its doors on May 18 due to a steady decline in attendance and program participation.
Town staff made the announcement April 12 and noted the Town of Oakville would reallocate centre’s funding to new youth initiatives, including temporary “pop-up” youth centres to better meet the needs of various neighbourhoods throughout town.

Reconstruction begins spring 2019
Oakville council voted to approve the final design for the downtown Lakeshore Road reconstruction during a special meeting of the planning and development council April 10.
The reconstruction of Lakeshore Road between Navy and Allan streets is scheduled to start in the spring of 2019 and take place in two phases.
Phase 1 will see the reconstruction of Lakeshore Road between Navy and Dunn streets from spring to the fall of 2019.
