Mayor promising 'big announcement' about Oakville sustainability, saying Oakville's future is green

Mayor Rob Burton is promising a big announcement in his 10th State of the Town Address, to be delivered to the Oct. 23 Council meeting.

“Oakville’s future is green,” the mayor said in making the promise today, “and a big step forward for our sustainability and green house gas reduction is coming. Council laid the foundation for this big step forward in previous far-sighted investments, and I’m delighted to be able reveal how those investments will be paying off.”

The annual state of the town speech is given to Council every fall by the mayor. In the talk the mayor sets out progress to the Council’s objectives and identifies challenges and opportunities facing the Town.

It was in the 2015 state of the town speech that Mayor Burton shared the news that ClubLink intended to develop a housing subdivision in the place of the world famous Glen Abbey Golf Course. Council unanimously rejected ClubLink’s application after careful consideration of all relevant information.

The mayor’s speech will update the public and Council with the next steps in the Glen Abbey Golf Course situation.

The Council meeting Oct. 23 starts at 7 pm, following a mayor’s reception in the south atrium of Town Hall at 6 pm. The public is invited to attend, and the reception will resume in the south atrium after the speech when the mayor will take questions from the public and the media.

The speech can be seen live over the internet at 7 pm Oct. 23 on this link: State of the Town Speech.
